YORK TOURISM AWARDS 2009

Almost 400 guests attended the York Tourism Awards 2009; a glittering evening at York Racecourse to celebrate excellence in the city’s crucial tourism industry.
Sixteen deserving winners picked from more than 150 entries were presented awards by BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration.  Winners and finalists alike celebrated with a lavish dinner, charity casino and dancing to live music.
The prestigious 2009 York Tourism Ambassador award was bestowed on Berwick Kaler and the York Theatre Royal Pantomime for their role in raising York’s profile on an international stage. Last year marked Berwick’s 30th year in his infamous role and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London honoured this special event by recording a performance for its national archive.

The event was sponsored by more than twenty York businesses. Morrell Middleton www.morrell-middleton.co.uk and Hotel Noir www.hotelnoir.co.uk sponsored the charity casino at the ceremony which it is hoped has raised sufficient money to purchase a new scooter for the York shopmobility scheme.
